This week's pick

Family STEAM: Build a Spooky Village

Halloween week lands on a genuinely decent weekend — 14°C and partly cloudy Saturday, a mild 19°C Sunday. Both days are dry, which matters if you're heading to Mountsberg or Springridge. The indoor calendar is stacked too, so you have real choices either way. Saturday afternoon is the crunch point: the library build, the pool, and the concert all overlap between 1 and 4 pm, so pick one and commit.

All Ages Free

Family STEAM: Build a Spooky Village

Burlington Public Library's New Appleby branch runs its spooky village build Saturday 2–4 pm. Kids design and decorate a cardboard haunted house, boo-tique, or whatever weird thing they dream up, then it joins a growing community display. LEGO, Magna-Tiles, and Straws N Connectors are also out. Free, all ages, no registration required — and if you miss it, grab an instruction sheet and bring a finished piece back later.

Halloween Skelebration at Mountsberg

Skelebration runs both Saturday and Sunday evenings at Mountsberg Conservation Area, 4:30–10 pm. The Night Walk trail hits a Ghostly Pirate Ship, Giant Pumpkin, and Graveyard of the Undead — no jump scares, but bring flashlights. Wagon rides through the dark woods are $6.50 per person, first-come first-served from the gift shop; the raptors and snakes make guest appearances too.

Sat · 4:30 p.m. · Mountsberg Conservation Area

A Burlington dad says: Concert at 1 pm, then Mountsberg at 4:30 — that's a full Halloween Saturday without leaving Burlington until the last minute.

Springridge Farm's Harvest Weekends run Saturday 9 am–5 pm with the Giant Corn Trail, Fun Farmyard, pumpkin picking, and the farm bakery. October admission is $19 per person for ages 2–92. Partly cloudy Saturday is about as good as it gets for a farm visit this late in the season.

Harvest Weekends at Springridge

Springridge Farm repeats Sunday 9 am–5 pm with the same full lineup — corn trail, farmyard, pumpkins, pies. Sunday's 19°C forecast makes it the warmer of the two days if you're choosing between them. Last weekends of the harvest season are usually the busiest; arrive before noon.
