Family STEAM: Build a Spooky Village
Cold and cloudy Saturday, then a genuine turnaround Sunday — 15°C and clear skies with two weeks left before Halloween. That combination makes this one of the better weekends to do the outdoor stuff before the season closes. Mountsberg Skelebration runs both evenings, Springridge Farm is open all day both days, and the Burlington Public Library has cardboard and LEGO waiting if Saturday's chill keeps you inside.
Burlington Public Library is running its Spooky Village build at Tansley Woods Sunday morning, 10:30am to 12:30pm, with afternoon sessions at Brant Hills and Aldershot at 2:00pm. Kids use cardboard, Magna-Tiles, LEGO, and craft supplies to add a building to a growing Halloween village — haunted house, witch's cottage, whatever they dream up. Can't make a session? Grab an instruction sheet at any branch and bring your finished piece in later to join the village.

A Burlington dad says: Tansley Woods at 10:30am Sunday, then Mountsberg at 4:30 — that's a full Halloween day without leaving the house before 10.
The afternoon round of the Spooky Village build runs 2:00pm to 4:00pm Sunday at both Brant Hills and Aldershot branches. Same supplies, same all-ages format — LEGO, Magna-Tiles, Straws N Connectors, plus Halloween crafts. Good option if Sunday morning fills up or you need a later start.
Mountsberg Conservation Area runs Skelebration Sunday evening, 4:30pm to 10:00pm. The illuminated Night Walk trail hits a Graveyard of the Undead, a Ghostly Pirate Ship, and a Giant Pumpkin, and this year adds a Junior Eco Guardian scavenger hunt. No jump scares — bring flashlights. Wagon rides through the woods are $6.50 per person, first come first served at the gift shop.
Ireland House Museum runs its October edition of How to Be a Victorian on Sunday, 1:00pm to 4:00pm, themed around Victorian superstitions — omens, mysterious beliefs, and the strange side of 19th-century life. Activities are designed for ages 5 to 12 and are included in admission; family membership holders get in free. Walk-ins welcome, pre-registration recommended.
Skelebration also runs Saturday evening at Mountsberg, 4:30pm to 10:00pm. At 7°C it will be cold — dress the kids in costume over a base layer and bring the flashlights. The campfires and Haunted Barn help. Wagon rides are $6.50 per person at the gift shop, first come first served.
Springridge Farm's Harvest Weekends run Sunday 9:00am to 5:00pm with the Giant Corn Trail, Fun Farmyard, pumpkin picking, and the farm bakery. October admission is $19 per person for ages 2 to 92. Sunday's 15°C forecast makes this the better of the two days to go.
Springridge Farm is also open Saturday, 9:00am to 5:00pm, same admission and same lineup. At 7°C you'll want layers, but the corn trail and farmyard are fully outdoor. If Saturday is your only option, go — just pack accordingly.
The Burlington Performing Arts Centre hosts a Secret Path Cushion Concert Saturday afternoon, 1:00pm to 4:00pm, with Elders Kate Dickson and Shannon Thunderbird. Kids sit on cushions for drumming, traditional crafts, and storytelling rooted in First Peoples teachings. Solid indoor option for a cold Saturday with kids old enough to sit and listen.

BooFest runs Sunday at Cloverdale Mall, 10:00am to 6:00pm, with a haunted house, carnival games, a corn maze, and food. Indoor-outdoor mix means the weather isn't a factor. Good backup if Springridge or Mountsberg sell out or if you want something closer to home.
The Rosedale Pumpkin Trail runs Saturday evening at 204 Aberfoyle Avenue, 5:00pm to 8:00pm — glowing pumpkins, an inflatable maze, and a food truck. Neighbourhood-scale event, free to wander. Good warm-up before the bigger Mountsberg experience if you want two Halloween outings in one weekend.
