This week's pick
Halloween Skelebration at Mountsberg
Two mild, cloudy days with almost no rain — about as good as October gets for outdoor Halloween events. Mountsberg runs Skelebration both Saturday and Sunday evening, Springridge Farm is open all day both days, and the Burlington Public Library has indoor options if you want to keep it low-key. Thanksgiving weekend means Kelso also has live entertainment and pumpkin painting on top of the fall chairlift. Pack a flashlight for Saturday night.
Mountsberg Conservation Area runs Skelebration Sunday evening from 4:30 to 10 p.m. The illuminated Night Walk trail hits an Invasive Zone, a Ghostly Pirate Ship, and a Giant Pumpkin. No jump scares — bring a flashlight and come in costume. Wagon rides through the woods are $6.50 per person, first come first served at the gift shop.

A Burlington dad says: We did Springridge at noon and Skelebration at 4:30 — the Night Walk at Mountsberg was worth every minute of the drive.
The Saturday run of Skelebration at Mountsberg goes 4:30 to 10 p.m. Same Night Walk, same Haunted Barn, same live snakes and raptors as Sunday — but Saturday tends to draw bigger crowds, so arrive closer to opening. Dogs are welcome on leash everywhere except the wagon rides and the animal barn.
Springridge Farm in Milton opens Saturday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. for Harvest Weekends. October admission is $19 per person (ages 2 and up), which gets you the Fun Farmyard, the Giant Corn Trail, and access to the Farm Bakery. Pick a pumpkin while you're there — the selection goes fast by afternoon.
Springridge Farm runs the same Harvest Weekend program Sunday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. If you're splitting the weekend between Springridge during the day and Skelebration at night, Sunday is the cleaner double-header — both are within 20 minutes of each other off Highway 25.
Burlington Public Library's Family STEAM program runs Sunday morning 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Tansley Woods. Kids build cardboard structures for a growing Halloween village using LEGO, Magna-Tiles, and craft supplies. All ages, no registration required — but Tansley fills up, so arrive at open.
A second Sunday afternoon session of Family STEAM runs 2 to 4 p.m. at both Brant Hills and Aldershot branches. Same cardboard Halloween village build — good fallback if Tansley Woods is at capacity in the morning. Free with library membership.
Ireland House Museum runs How to Be a Victorian on Sunday 1 to 4 p.m., and October's theme is Superstitions. Kids ages 5 to 12 explore Victorian ghost lore and omens through hands-on activities. Walk-ins welcome; pre-registration gets you guaranteed admission. Free for family membership holders.
Pumpkin Storytime at BPL Brant Hills runs Saturday 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. — pumpkin tales, songs, and a take-home craft. Best for kids five and under. Space is limited at this branch, so get there before 10:15.
A second Pumpkin Storytime option also runs Saturday 10:30 a.m. at Brant Hills. Same format: fall stories, songs, and a craft for the under-five crowd. If you're already heading to Springridge later in the day, Brant Hills is a reasonable first stop on the way out of Burlington.
Kelso Conservation Area has fall chairlift rides running Sunday with peak-colour foliage. Thanksgiving weekend adds pumpkin painting, wood cookie branding, and live entertainment to the usual Fun Zone. Some activities cost extra — buy tokens on site. Check the Halton Conservation website for weather-related closures before you go.
