Family STEAM: Build a Spooky Village
Cloudy both days with temperatures in the mid-teens — not bad for early October. Rain stays low Saturday (14%) and creeps up Sunday (32%), so front-load your outdoor plans. Telling Tales at Hendrie Park runs both days and is free, which makes it the easy anchor for the weekend. The library branches have Halloween building and pumpkin storytime running Saturday morning and Sunday afternoon if you need an indoor backup.
The Spooky Village build continues Sunday at three BPL branches: Tansley Woods 10:30am–12:30pm, Brant Hills 2:00–4:00pm, and Aldershot 2:00–4:00pm. Same cardboard-and-craft setup, same free drop-in format. Good fallback if Sunday's rain materializes.
Telling Tales continues Sunday at Hendrie Park, same hours, same free admission. Sunday carries a 32% rain chance, so check the sky before you leave. The gardens themselves are worth the walk between stages if it stays dry.

Burlington Public Library's New Appleby branch runs Family STEAM: Build a Spooky Village on Saturday from 2:00pm to 4:00pm. Kids use cardboard and craft supplies to design a haunted house, witch's cottage, or whatever weird thing they dream up — their creation gets added to a growing Halloween village display. LEGO, Magna-Tiles, and Straws N Connectors are also out. All ages, no registration required.
Telling Tales opens Saturday at Royal Botanical Gardens Hendrie Park, 9:30am to 5pm. Five stages, 50-plus Canadian children's authors and illustrators, and it's completely free. Saturday's 14% rain chance makes it the better of the two days to go — get there early and work the stages before the afternoon crowds build.

Springridge Farm is open again Sunday, same hours and same $19 admission. If you're splitting the weekend, Sunday gives you a second shot at the corn trail, but keep an eye on that 32% rain chance before you commit to the drive.
Ireland House Museum runs How to Be a Victorian on Sunday from 1:00–4:00pm, with October's theme being Superstitious. Kids ages 5–12 explore Victorian ghost lore, omens, and unexplained beliefs through hands-on activities. Admission applies; free for family members. Walk-ins welcome, pre-registration recommended.
Pumpkin Storytime runs Saturday at 10:30am at BPL Alton branch — pumpkin-themed stories, songs, and a take-home craft. Best for kids five and under. Space is limited at this location, so arrive a few minutes early to get a spot.
Springridge Farm runs Harvest Weekends Saturday 9am–5pm with the Giant Corn Trail, Fun Farmyard, pumpkin picking, and the farm bakery. October admission is $19 per person for ages 2 and up. Cloudy and cool is honestly fine weather for a corn maze — dress in layers.
Parent & Child — Little Turkeys runs Saturday 3:00–4:30pm at The Loft at Longo's on Walkers Line. Kids ages 3–5 cook a harvest-inspired menu alongside their grown-up, with simple kitchen skills built in. Thanksgiving timing makes this one easy to sell to a preschooler.
