This week's pick

Doors Open Hamilton at the Children’s Museum

Cool and grey both days, so lean into the indoor options — and there are good ones. Saturday is the stronger day: the Hamilton Children's Museum opens its expanded building for free, and the Robert Bateman Community Centre throws its doors open at 5151 New St. Sunday is quieter but the Art Gallery of Burlington has a free family studio all afternoon. Dress in layers either way.

Doors Open Hamilton at the Children’s Museum

The Hamilton Children's Museum is opening its brand-new expanded building Saturday as part of Doors Open Hamilton — free admission, hands-on exhibits, and timed entry slots running from 10:15 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Slots are 1 hour 15 minutes each, so pick your window and expect a wait if you show up without a plan. The original 1875 Gage Park farmhouse has been expanded for better accessibility and more programming space — worth seeing before the crowds figure it out.

Doors Open Hamilton at Battlefield House Museum & Park

Battlefield House Museum in Stoney Creek is part of Doors Open Hamilton on Saturday, free from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The property covers 34 acres with two historic homes — the 1796 Gage house and a relocated 19th-century building — plus meadows and forest trails. The outdoor sections are weather-dependent, but the indoor exhibits are solid if the drizzle keeps up.
